You just did a fresh install of the latest version of an operating system, and I’m asking you to update? Confusing? I admit it may sound so but it’s very important as there can be new updates since they released Fedora 25, and you downloaded and installed. Thus, open a terminal and run the command:

sudo dnf update

Install Gnome Tweak Tool

Once you’ve updated the system, now you should a few apps. First of all, GNOME Tweak Tool – the most important program to customize your copy of Fedora. With this software you can easily install new themes, add/remove extensions and more.

sudo dnf install gnome-tweak-tool

Install VLC Media Player

Now install a media player. What’s better than VLC? VLC is to media players what Chrome is to Browsers. A free and open source player that plays almost all multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols.

Additionally, VLC media player provides many features, effects and filters that are not available in Fedora’s default video player. In fact, default player does nothing except playing your file as is.

Get Google Chrome

Momentum - Chrome Extension

Uninstall Any Software You Won’t Use

While it may seem trivial, it’s one of the important things to do after installing fedora 25. In case there is a software that comes up pre-loaded on Fedora which you won’t use, you can uninstall it. You can find the list of all apps in package manager.

Install UnRar

UnRar is RAR extraction utility used for extracting files from RAR archives. RAR archives are usually created with WinRAR, primarily in a Windows environment. Go to official link, download rpm per your requirements and install.

GitHub’s Atom

Let’s start by downloading a great code editor. While you can certainly download Sublime Text, another great code editor but I just didn’t deem it important for this list as it is a paid software.

Visit Atom to download and install the software with Ubuntu Software manager. Additionally, Atom has a built-in package manager, a file manager and a flexible autocomplete.

Cleanup with Bleachbit

BleachBit deletes unnecessary files to free valuable disk space, maintain privacy, and remove junk. Rid your system of old clutter including cache, cookies, Internet history, localizations, logs, temporary files, and broken shortcuts. It wipes clean the cache and history list of many common programs.

  1. I commend you on your article explaining how to make Fedora25 a most useful desktop system. There is a Fedora 25 Remix that has included all the software and extra repositories you are asking of individuals to install after the first reboot. The Remix is a proven version of Fedora, built with Fedora 25 , and has integrated rpmfusion, vlc, tweaktool, chromium, skype, git and a few more wonderful Gnome extensions. I would choose the Remix and save the extra work. The title of the link is Index of /fedora/russianfedora/releases/test/RFRemix/25_Beta/Workstation/x86_64/
    The actual link is http://mirror.yandex.ru/fedora/russianfedora/releases/test/RFRemix/25_Beta/Workstation/x86_64/iso/

The network installation version is entirely in English, The Live Remix version is in Russian. I am not Russian Speaking or knowledgeable, but I opened the system window and clicked onto the top righ icon in that window. I switched languages from Russian to English. All the rest of my testing and installation was in English. My recommendation, is to perform the Fedora25 Remix using the network installation version.

This comment was written using that Network installation verison.
